Why is it that you want to learn a new language? Is it because you want to travel there for vacation? are you going to move for your job and need to be able to communicate with the local colleagues? Or is it just because you are taking the subject in school as a complement to your other classes?
In any case you should be motivated when learning a new language. You can find that motivation within you or try to find information on the country that speaks the language you want to learn, their culture, their politics, or even their cooking. There will always be something in this country (or these countries) that will grab your attention and make you want to learn more about its language through a particular topic!
I learned German, English and Spanish because I was attracted to the countries that spoke those languages. I wanted to visit Bavaria and see the Christmas markets in Germany, I also had two friends there; English is easy to learn comparatively to other languages and is spoken everywhere; and I wanted to visit so many countries in South America that Spanish was a natural choice. So that's why I learned those languages.
Another thing I learned when assimilating all these languages is that you have to train yourself to think in those languages. I know it sounds counterintuitive : how can you think in a language you don't know? But "translating" the words in your head every time you want to say something will only hinder you, and make you shy-er; it will make you think more about the mistakes you're making.
As soon as you know a few words in your new language, use them in your head "directly". For example if you have learned how to say "j'aime le vin" in French (I love wine) and you want to say it to someone, don't think first (je=I, le=the and vin=wine) just say it. Maybe you will stumble, maybe you will say it wrong (je aime vin!) but you will have said it without an unnecessary step (translation). You will make a lot of mistakes at first but after a while it will become more natural and words will flow more easily than if you hesitate all the time.
